Very charming regarding they're football fans.

Gladbachs roster features two of the most gifted young players (Marin and Ndjeng) around.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1257246524982660529.post-77699925250638926632008-01-21T22:16:00.000+00:002008-01-21T22:16:00.000+00:00Thanks for that Jan. Perhaps that, plus the collapse of Kirch, did for them."

Nope, I only recently started to get more interested into football finances, so I don't have a good overview of who suffered the most from the Kirch collapse and all, but Gladbach's finances are rock solid. They made a profit of €6m last season. The finances have probably been the only thing that they got right, just like FC Cologne, who are also in excellent condition from an economic perspective. But the whole coach/sporting director thing never worked well the last couple of years. Gladbach actually planned to have a go at the UEFA Cup spots the season they got relegated... Things are looking much better now though. They rebuilt their squad making a profit of €14m for this season and many pundits believe this squad to be quite a bit stronger than the one that got relegated. So it's all looking quite good for them.

In case of Cologne I'm not so sure. I'm a Cologne supporter, so I hope they make it back, but I currently don't have much trust in the management (except for the financial part).

Both teams have helped to really elevate the standing of the second Bundesliga, which has been dubbed 'the best ever' this season. But they nonetheless belong in the Bundesliga. Based on stadium/fanbase/infrastructure they should be upper midtable, with at least Cologne (being one of Germany's largest cities) having a long term perspective for the very top.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
